POKOTABI / Umi
牛味
Near Oji Station, Umi serves a diverse range of Korean dishes, from simmered bone-in kalbi gukbap and rich half-chicken samgyetang to fragrant samgyeopsal.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
A single sip of the piping-hot broth brought to the table reveals a gentle depth of dashi and savory richness that warms from the inside out. Well regarded around Oji Station, Umi is a Korean restaurant pairing yakiniku options with an extensive selection of comforting soups and classic homestyle dishes.
For a substantial midday meal, the Kalbi Gukbap set is an appealing pick. Its concentrated, subtly spiced broth features bone-in kalbi simmered until tender, delivering a melt-in-the-mouth texture. The set meal comes complete with rice, side dishes, and shredded cabbage salad, rounding out a thoroughly satisfying lunch. On chillier days, the Half Samgyetang set offers gentle nourishment, gently stewing young chicken with glutinous rice, Asian ginseng, jujubes, and garlic until the meat falls apart in a rich poultry broth.
Those after something fragrant from the grill will appreciate the samgyeopsal, where the natural savor of the pork takes center stage. Wrapped with fresh sanchu lettuce and tossed with seasoned scallion salad, each bite balances the sweet richness of the fat. The menu also provides plenty of single-portion choices, including sizzling stone-pot bibimbap and sweet-savory cheese dak-galbi blanketed in melted cheese.
Lunch includes an after-meal coffee service, making it easy to unwind in the relaxed dining room. Come evening, dinner invites longer stays over glasses of draft beer or makgeolli, shared side dishes, and tabletop grills.
